WMHA 2025 Indio Rally Mentor Program

posted in: WMHA News 0

WMHA President James McDaniel wants to incorporate an FMCA program into our own Indio rally. This is the First Timers Mentor program. You may have noticed some people wearing “Mentor” badges while attending an FMCA Convention. These are people designated to provide one-on-one help to convention first time attendees. What does a Mentor do you ask? For the most part they welcome attendees to the convention, answer any questions and assist them to finding their way around the convention and learning the ins-and-outs of attending a convention.

James has asked me to implement this program into our Western Area Rally in Indio. First Timers account for about 1/3 of rally attendees. What we need is about 12 volunteers to become a Mentor.

Your duties would be as follows:

  1. Receive a list of about 12-15 First Time attendees from our treasurer who handles the rally
    registrations
  2. Contact these people and introduce yourself as their assigned Mentor and welcome them
    to our Indio rally
  3. Answer any questions they may have
  4. In Indio, attend the First Timers Briefing where you will be introduced, and you will partner
    up with your assigned attendees*
  5. Be available throughout the rally to assist them if needed

You will receive a "Mentors Guide" with more specific information on what to do. The goal is to make our First Timers feel welcome and thus hopefully they will return the following year to attend again. I am an FMCA Mentor, and it is quite fun to help First Timers. They really appreciate it.

If you are interested, please let me know and thanks for doing this.

*We will meet briefly in Indio prior to the First Timers briefing to go over what to expect.

WMHA 2025 Arabian Nights Ladies Luncheon

34th Annual FMCA Western Area Rally

Date:        January 11, 2025
Time:        1;00 - 3:00 PM
Location:  Fullenwider Building

Ladies, get ready for a captivating afternoon at this year’s WMHA Arabian Nights Ladies Luncheon! This year, we’re excited to feature a special theme: “RVing Lifestyle for Ladies.”

Join us for an inspiring session with guest speakers from diverse backgrounds, all with years of experience as full-time RVers. They’ll share valuable insights, tips, and stories that highlight the joys and challenges of embracing the RVing lifestyle.

While the topic may not directly align with our Arabian Nights theme, we encourage all attendees to dress in vibrant, colorful Arabian-inspired attire. There will be a fun and friendly competition for the Best Dressed Lady of the Hour, so come ready to impress!

In addition to the engaging discussions, you’ll have the chance to unwind, connect with fellow RVing enthusiasts, and share your own experiences. Our dedicated volunteer staff has prepared a healthy and delicious lunch with you in mind, ensuring a delightful experience from start to finish.

Don’t miss out on this unique blend of culture, fashion, and RVing wisdom! We look forward to seeing you there.

Best Regards

FMCA New Name

Family RV Association

Today, at FMCA's 109th International Convention & RV Expo Governing Board Meeting in Redmond Oregon the official name of the FAMILY MOTOR COACH ASSOCIATION (FMCA) was changed to FAMILY RV ASSOCIATION (FRVA).

It's essential that the new name resonates with both existing and potential members while capturing the essence of the RVing lifestyle and community values. A double-win comes when the naming construct also reflects the brand promise. The presumed market leader in the space, FMCA has the opportunity to include the category identifier (RV) in its naming construct in order to lay claim to their leadership as the RV authority.

Now, remember that FRVA is member-owned and members have a say. Each voting chapter has a representative (and alternate) that comprises the National Governing Board. This group meets once per year at an FRVA international convention to vote on issues.

After some spirited discussions, the new name, FAMILY RV ASSOCIATION was voted in. Stay tuned for more detailed information from FRVA.

In light of this development, what are your thoughts concerning the WESTERN MOTOR HOME ASSOCIATION (WMHA) name? Should we adopt a name that better reflects our growing membership? Maybe something like WESTERN RV ASSOCIATION (WRVA)?
