WMHA President James McDaniel wants to incorporate an FMCA program into our own Indio rally. This is the First Timers Mentor program. You may have noticed some people wearing “Mentor” badges while attending an FMCA Convention. These are people designated to provide one-on-one help to convention first time attendees. What does a Mentor do you ask? For the most part they welcome attendees to the convention, answer any questions and assist them to finding their way around the convention and learning the ins-and-outs of attending a convention.
James has asked me to implement this program into our Western Area Rally in Indio. First Timers account for about 1/3 of rally attendees. What we need is about 12 volunteers to become a Mentor.
Your duties would be as follows:
- Receive a list of about 12-15 First Time attendees from our treasurer who handles the rally
registrations - Contact these people and introduce yourself as their assigned Mentor and welcome them
to our Indio rally - Answer any questions they may have
- In Indio, attend the First Timers Briefing where you will be introduced, and you will partner
up with your assigned attendees* - Be available throughout the rally to assist them if needed
You will receive a "Mentors Guide" with more specific information on what to do. The goal is to make our First Timers feel welcome and thus hopefully they will return the following year to attend again. I am an FMCA Mentor, and it is quite fun to help First Timers. They really appreciate it.
If you are interested, please let me know and thanks for doing this.
