Family RV Association
Today, at FMCA's 109th International Convention & RV Expo Governing Board Meeting in Redmond Oregon the official name of the FAMILY MOTOR COACH ASSOCIATION (FMCA) was changed to FAMILY RV ASSOCIATION (FRVA).
It's essential that the new name resonates with both existing and potential members while capturing the essence of the RVing lifestyle and community values. A double-win comes when the naming construct also reflects the brand promise. The presumed market leader in the space, FMCA has the opportunity to include the category identifier (RV) in its naming construct in order to lay claim to their leadership as the RV authority.
Now, remember that FRVA is member-owned and members have a say. Each voting chapter has a representative (and alternate) that comprises the National Governing Board. This group meets once per year at an FRVA international convention to vote on issues.
After some spirited discussions, the new name, FAMILY RV ASSOCIATION was voted in. Stay tuned for more detailed information from FRVA.
In light of this development, what are your thoughts concerning the WESTERN MOTOR HOME ASSOCIATION (WMHA) name? Should we adopt a name that better reflects our growing membership? Maybe something like WESTERN RV ASSOCIATION (WRVA)?
Dave Shideler
Heck no
Susan Lewis
I agree with Western RV Association.
Jim McPheters
Absolutely, make the change.

We have had wonderful memories with FMCA attending dozens of both area and national rallies and making lots of friends in FMCA over the last 25 years! We were heartbroken when our primary chapter Golden Gate was disbanded due to declining membership and the passing of so many. Unfortunately now Susan has dementia and has fallen and broken her back twice in the past year once resulting in a brain hemorrhage so sadly we are giving up our membership. Our best wishes go out for the organization to continue providing special memories for its members.

Our club dropped Monaco from our name two years ago, since the brand had been purchased and then killed off by REV Co. A year later, in order to broaden our membership draw, we opened up to any motor home. While I don’t anticipate going so far as including towables. That being said, I do not object to WMHA changing its name to match that of FRVA.
Our next rally will be in October. I can bring it up for consideration, if you feel we need to provide a vote on this issue before the January rally in Indio.
