The Diablo Ramblers were organized in 1973 and are now a chapter of FMCA in California. Our members live mainly in Central and Northern California although we welcome members to join from all areas of California and Nevada. Campouts are usually four consecutive nights once a month except for June, July and August. In December we usually celebrate with a Christmas Luncheon.

Our official campout activities typically start on Wednesday afternoon when many of the members arrive. We meet for a short social hour and then have dinner on our own. Thursday through Saturday evenings we have a social hour followed by dinner together, after which we have games in the clubhouse. One of those evenings our hosts plan and cook the main course for a dinner with other members bringing assigned dishes. The other night our hosts organize a potluck dinner. Saturday mornings our men prepare a breakfast which we follow with a club meeting. Sunday is our day of departure. Some members add extra nights either before or after our four scheduled nights to enjoy the surrounding area.

Campout activities might include indoor and outdoor games, sightseeing, either organized or on-our-own, shopping, relaxing, and enjoying each other’s company. Occasionally, we do minor work on our rigs or help someone else with theirs. We tend to be casual about chapter activities so members may feel free to “do their own thing” during campouts. Most members are of retirement age or nearly so.

Members volunteer to be hosts and co-hosts by choosing the campground, but members can do as much or as little as they like. A “No Host” Campout is sometimes just finding a place to hold a Campout. Hosting can include making reservations, notifying members of a schedule, collecting fees, organizing activities, organizing and/or preparing one or two meals and arranging the dining area. Hosts can also furnish further information about area activities and restaurants.

We camp as far north as Red Bluff, as far south as Pismo Beach, as far as Clio to the east and west all along the California Coast with 10 to 20 rigs attending. Occasionally several of us get together for short caravans during the summer.

FMCA has some great regional rallies that are shown on our campout schedule.

Chapter dues are currently $12 per year payable November 1st. Most of our members belong to FMCA although FMCA rules allow non-members to attend our outings. Attendance at one of our chapter outings is recommended before joining. Feel free to call if there are any questions. Come “Ramble” with us. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the experience!
