Indio 2015 Press Release

Indio, Calif. – In early January, more than 1,200 families in motorhomes will be arriving at the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival grounds for the 27th Annual Western Area Rally. The theme for this year’s rally — set to take place January 7 to 11, 2015 — is “Out of This World.” And anyone who has witnessed a gathering of a thousand or so motorhomes, or toured some of today’s homey, feature-filled RVs, likely would agree that’s an apt description for this event. A small city within a city will form as the anticipated 3,000 people gather in their homes on wheels for this rally, which is expected to have an estimated economic impact of $3 million to $5 million in the local area.

Members of the public are invited to take part in the motorhome show portion of the rally at the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival grounds. Display hours for motorhomes are from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7; hours for motorhome and other exhibits are 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 8, 9, and 10.

Motorhome dealers from throughout California will participate in the show. In addition to the more than 100 motorhomes that will be open for display (in various types and sizes), show attendees can browse through motorhome components, accessories, home products, clothing, and more within approximately 150 vendor spaces.

Daily admission to the motorhome show is $10 per person; children admitted free. This fee is good for admission to the exhibits and seminars only; other activities are reserved for rally attendees. The Western Motor Home Association is part of Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), an international organization for motorhome owners that is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and currently has nearly 80,000 active member families.

FMCA members may also purchase a one-day admission that includes exhibits and entertainment (no overnight parking) for an additional $15. Motorhome owners who have not yet joined FMCA will have an opportunity to do so during the event in Indio at the FMCA membership booth. Free parking is available at the Arrival Area on Arabia Street.

Motorhomes are a popular travel option. According to a recent consumer study conducted by the University of Michigan, U.S. ownership of RVs has reached record levels. Nearly one in nine U.S. households now owns an RV.

In addition, the potential for future growth in RV ownership in general in the United States is considerable. Sales of recreation vehicles are expected to increase as baby boomers move into their prime RV-buying years.

Industry officials believe that the advantages of RV travel in today’s climate will help to drive market growth. Families want to spend quality time together and prefer the greater freedom, flexibility, control, and comfort that RVs provide. Younger consumers and empty-nesters alike are realizing the advantages of RVing versus other forms of travel.

Media invitation.. In addition to inviting members of the public to join the fun, rally organizers invite members of the media to come to the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival grounds to witness the activities and learn more about the motorhome lifestyle. A variety of story opportunities will present themselves during the event. Beyond the motorhome show that is open to the public, rally attendees will enjoy seminars, daytime and evening entertainment, a parade, morning coffee and doughnuts, two ice cream socials, and more.

The fun rolls on in California. Association members also will take part in FMCA’s 91st Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase March 26 – 29, 2015, in Pomona, California. More than 2,500 motorhomes and some 6,000 or 7,000 people are expected for the event.

Benefits of belonging. Family Motor Coach Association offers its members benefits such as a medical evacuation and travel assistance program (valued at $105 per year and included in the annual $40 dues); group rates for motorhome insurance, RV tours and caravans, and mail forwarding service; a Michelin tire purchasing program; and much more, along with its monthly magazine, Family Motor Coaching, filled with helpful information for the motorhome enthusiast. The organization’s national office is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and can be reached at 800-543-3622 or 513-474-3622;; or on the Web at
